Throughout history, Hip-hop has faced a lot of backlash and criticism compared to other musical genres. Old Hip-hop has always been a form of expression for the black community. However, due to the vulgarity of hip-hop, it has always been seen as explicit.

Many rappers and artists, like J. Cole, choose not to back down, which gives hip-hop a support that is not usually provided. Rappers and artists all tend to value the opinions of their fans, which tend to lead to a rapid change in styles. When this style isn’t changed, criticism increases.

Hip-hop is seen to glorify drug use and therefore is not taken as seriously as other musical genres. Rap and hip-hop tend to glamorize destructive behavior which is seen as a very negative impact towards younger generations who look up to this type of music.
In the past decades, there has been a rise in drug abuse being mentioned in songs. This is said in such a nonchalant way and raises concern since it seems as though people have grown desensitized to such words in songs. At the end of the day, that is all it is: words in songs.
Though music videos and lyrics might seem destructive, it is, ultimately, the listeners choice on what they do with the music they consume.

While this doesn’t necessarily pose too much of a problem, many people have seen a decrease in reading levels and spelling due to this new age talking.
People also tend to see many issues with the language. This does not necessarily mean cursing, but instead the abbreviated words that then become slang. In this day and age many younger generations tend to speak in slang rather than using actual words.
